Process and Policy for the Sacrament of Baptism

Dear parents,

The community of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church rejoices with you at the birth of your child. We welcome you with great joy as you desire to bring your son or daughter to receive new life in the Holy Spirit through the Sacrament of Baptism. This sacred moment is a blessing for your family and for our Parish community.

I. General Requirement for Infant Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism for children is celebrated for those under the age of seven.
Children seven years and older are to be enrolled in the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA)—a two‑year formation program through which candidates receive the three Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation.

 

II. Selection of Godparent(s) and Godparent Requirements

 

Parents may choose one Godparent (male or female) or two Godparents (one male and one female). The Godparent(s) must meet the following Church requirements.

• Must be at least 16 years old
• Must be a practicing Catholic and regularly attending Mass
• Received the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation
• If married, must be sacramentally married in the Catholic Church

 

III. Required Documents and Preparations

Parents must come to the Parish Office and complete a Baptismal Registration Form, and present the original birth certificate of the child. A donation of $100 is recommended.

Parents will be given a Godparent Certification/Affidavit Form. The form must be completed by the Godparent and the Godparent’s Pastor. When completed, the original Godparent Certification/Affidavit Form must be returned to the Parish Office.

 

A date for the Baptism Preparation Seminar and the Baptism Ceremony will be scheduled only after all required documents have been submitted.

IV. Baptismal Formation Training Class

 

Parents and Godparents are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Seminar.

 

Parents will attend the Baptismal Class here at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel on the First Saturday of the month at 3:00 PM.

 

The Godparent(s) may also attend the Baptismal Class here on the First Saturday of the month. Godparent(s) unable to attend here, must attend and complete a Baptismal Preparation Class at their home Parish. A letter or certificate of participation and completion of the Baptismal Preparation Class must be submitted to the Parish Office.

 

V. Baptism

 

The Parish Office, once they have received all necessary and original documents plus the donation, and the Parents and Godparent(s) have completed the Baptism Preparation Seminar, the Administrative Assistant will schedule a date for the child to receive the Sacrament of Baptism.

 

The Celebration of Baptism in English is scheduled for the Second Saturday of the month at 10:00 AM and the Celebration of Baptism in Spanish is scheduled for the Fourth Saturday of the month at 10:00 AM. Baptisms cannot be scheduled outside the Parish’s designated dates.

Proceso y Política para el Sacramento del Bautismo

Estimados padres:

La comunidad de Nuestra Señora del Monte Carmelo se alegra con ustedes por el nacimiento de su hijo(a). Los recibimos con gran alegría al desear traer a su hijo o hija para recibir una nueva vida en el Espíritu Santo mediante el Sacramento del Bautismo. Este momento sagrado es una bendición para su familia y para nuestra comunidad parroquial.

I. Requisito General para el Bautismo de Infantes

El Sacramento del Bautismo para niños se celebra para aquellos menores de siete años.

Los niños de siete años en adelante deben inscribirse en el Orden de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos (OCIA), un programa de formación de dos años mediante el cual los candidatos reciben los tres Sacramentos de Iniciación: Bautismo, Sagrada Eucaristía y Confirmación.

II. Selección de Padrino(s) y Requisitos para los Padrinos

Los padres pueden elegir un padrino (hombre o mujer) o dos padrinos (un hombre y una mujer). El/los padrino(s) debe(n) cumplir con los siguientes requisitos de la Iglesia:

• Tener al menos 16 años de edad.
• Ser católico practicante y asistir regularmente a la Misa.
• Haber recibido los Sacramentos del Bautismo, la Primera Comunión y la Confirmación.
• Si está casado(a), debe haber contraído matrimonio sacramental en la Iglesia Católica.

III. Documentos y Preparaciones Requeridos

Los padres deben acudir a la Oficina Parroquial y completar un Formulario de Inscripción para el Bautismo, además de presentar el certificado de nacimiento original del niño. Se recomienda una donación de $100.

A los padres se les entregará un Formulario de Certificación/Declaración Jurada para los Padrinos. Este formulario debe ser completado por el padrino y por el párroco del padrino. Una vez completado, el formulario original de Certificación/Declaración Jurada debe devolverse a la Oficina Parroquial.

La fecha para el Seminario de Preparación Bautismal y para la Ceremonia de Bautismo se programará únicamente después de que se hayan entregado todos los documentos requeridos.

IV. Clase de Formación Bautismal

Los padres y los padrinos deben asistir a un Seminario de Preparación para el Bautismo.

Los padres asistirán a la Clase Bautismal aquí en Nuestra Señora del Monte Carmelo el primer sábado de cada mes a las 3:00 p. m.

Los padrinos también pueden asistir a la Clase Bautismal aquí el primer sábado de cada mes. Los padrinos que no puedan asistir aquí deberán asistir y completar una Clase de Preparación Bautismal en su parroquia de origen. Se deberá presentar en la Oficina Parroquial una carta o certificado de participación y finalización de dicha clase.

V. Bautismo

Una vez que la Oficina Parroquial haya recibido todos los documentos necesarios y originales, junto con la donación, y que los padres y padrinos hayan completado el Seminario de Preparación Bautismal, la Asistente Administrativa programará una fecha para que el niño reciba el Sacramento del Bautismo.

La Celebración del Bautismo en inglés está programada para el segundo sábado de cada mes a las 10:00 a. m., y la Celebración del Bautismo en español está programada para el cuarto sábado de cada mes a las 10:00 a. m. Los bautismos no pueden programarse fuera de las fechas designadas por la parroquia.
